It’s comforting when family has your back, whatever your age.
A 9-year-old boy has been proclaimed a hero after his speedy actions saved his younger sister during an armed carjacking at a gas station in Alabama.
The frightening incident took place while Ethan Walker was sitting alongside his 6-year-old sister, Audrey, in the back seat of the car on Thursday in Moody, news station WBMA reported.
As the children’s mom, Kristin Walker, was outside filling up the car with gas, a man got out of a nearby Chevrolet SUV and jumped into the front seat.
“I actually jumped in on top of him and pulled the keys out of the ignition,’’ she told AL.com.
But the man pulled a gun on Kristin, who is pregnant.
“At that moment, Ethan was very quick to jump out the car and go around, get his little sister out,” Kristin told WBMA.
The man then sped off in the family’s vehicle, according to police.
Kristin said she was “so thankful” for her young son’s quick response.
“Ethan was so calm, cool and collected through the whole thing,“ she told AL.com.
Two suspects identified as 18-year-old Kendarian Toran and 23-year-old Eric White were later tracked down by police, according to local media reports.
Both are now in custody, with charges to be filed against them at a later date.
Local police have pledged to honor Ethan’s “incredible act of bravery” in the near future.
“He’s pretty excited about that and I’m so proud,’’ his mom told AL.com.
