Sometimes things really do go bump in the night.
Or so Brandon Hall thought when he heard strange noises coming from his bedroom in the dead of night.
But when the Florida homeowner went to investigate the odd sounds, he found a perfectly rational explanation – although it wasn’t quite the one he was expecting.
Hall went to get something from his car at around 3am last Wednesday. As he walked back inside his Naples home he could hear voices coming from the bedroom but assumed it was just the TV.
However, he soon located the real source of the unexplained sounds in a far more startling sight.
“When I opened my door my stuff’s on the floor and there’s just a naked guy sitting on my bed. I mean there’s no other way to put it,” Hall told NBC affiliate WBBH-TV.
The unattired gentleman first informed the horrified homeowner that he lived in the house. He then suggested someone had sent him there.
Hall, sensibly, was having none of it and rushed outside to dial 911.
Officers responding to the call found the uninvited guest, since identified as 38-year-old John Lyles, lying “supine” in Hall’s own bathrobe “exposing his genitalia,” according to the sheriff’s report.
Lyles admitted smoking crack cocaine earlier that night and not taking medication for schizophrenia.
He then tried to tear the patrol car “apart” and repeatedly burst into a “manic laugh” on the way to Naples Jail Center following a medical evaluation, the affidavit claims.
Lyles was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, criminal mischief and petit theft in the first degree, and released on a $2,000 bond.
Hall summed up his bizarre nocturnal experience by way of an understatement: “It wasn’t pleasant, I’ll tell you that much.”
“It’s crazy to think about. It could’ve gone a lot worse,” he added.
