Man jailed for Slurpee assault

While it’s vital to stay cool in the summer heat, certain ice cold beverages can apparently lead to brain freeze.

Certainly, a Florida man seems to have lost his own cool while haggling over the price of a Slurpee at a 7-Eleven.

Brian Matthew Duffy, 40, was arrested Thursday for allegedly soaking an employee at the Pinellas Park convenience store with the frozen drink last month during an argument over how much it cost.

Surveillance footage of the July 26 incident at the store on 40th Street North shows Duffy “back handing the cup full of a Slurpee drink” out of the female victim’s hand, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun.

“[Th]e contents of the cup flew on to the victim’s person,” police said.

Duffy swiftly exited before responding cops arrived, but later made the classic error of returning to the scene of his chilling crime.

He was busted after apparently going back to the store on Thursday afternoon, when the victim “pointed the defendant out to law enforcement,” according to the complaint.

Duffy allegedly recalled during police questioning “an incident” in which he “was being charged too much for a drink.” However, “[h]e does not remember hitting the cup out of the victim’s hand,” according to police.

Duffy was charged with felony battery over the frozen treat fracas due to a previous battery conviction noted on the arrest document.

He is being held at the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 bond.
