A man dressed in black garbage bags set fire to several garbage trucks at a Florida waste management business, causing millions of dollars worth of damage.
Wearing a “garbage bag type suit” complete with googles, the suspect forced his way into the Pompano Beach Waste Pro facility by torching the gate just after 2 a.m. on October 18, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Surveillance footage released by deputies on Friday shows the trashy trespasser with what looks like a gas canister setting several garbage trucks alight on the property.
He is then seen opening a door to the business and placing a clear bottle of liquid on the ground before igniting it, causing the building to burst into flames.
The bespokely suited arsonist then made his getaway in a black sedan, deputies said.
The fire destroyed at least 10 frontline trucks collectively valued at more than $3 million, the company told local outlets.
“We are saddened that such an irresponsible act could occur. Our drivers consider these $300,000 to $380,000 high technology trucks as their office and are proud to drive them,” Russell Mackie, Waste Pro’s regional vice president in Southeast Florida, said in a statement.
