The suspect in the Florida shooting that left two FBI agents dead and three wounded was identified by local media as a 55-year-old man who lived alone in the Sunrise apartment complex.
David Lee Huber was the target of a child-porn search warrant being served by the agents early Tuesday when he saw them through a doorbell camera and opened fire with an assault-style rifle.
The Miami Herald was one of the first outlets to identify Huber and said that he “lived a largely innocuous life” until the shocking ambush.
Huber largely kept to himself at the Water Terrace Apartments and did not appear to have any friends among his neighbors, a former tenant said.
The shooting, which occurred around 6 a.m. Tuesday, left veteran FBI agents Daniel Alfin and Laura Schwartzenberger dead — and three others wounded, two hospitalized in stable condition.
Authorities said Huber barricaded himself inside the first-floor apartment and is believed to have taken his own life.
Alfin, 36, and Schwartzenberger, 43, both had long careers in combating child pornography and sex trafficking cases in South Florida, the agency said.
The FBI has not yet released details of the investigation that led to the search warrant, or the names of the agents who were wounded.
An initial review shows Huber largely had vehicle and traffic violations on his record, according to local media outlets.
Federal Aviation Administration records show he held a commercial pilot’s license issued in 1994, authorizing him to fly both single- and multi-engine aircraft.
The tragic shooting and the events that led up to the raid remain under investigation.
