Known Antifa members masqueraded as Trump supporters in order to infiltrate the group of protesters which stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, a retired military officer affiliated to a facial recognition firm claims.
The unnamed source told told The Washington Times that XRVision, a company founded in Singapore in 2015 and based in New York City, used its software to identify two male protesters caught on camera inside the Senate as Philadelphia Antifa members.
The privately-held company, whose LinkedIn page lists three employees, is yet to respond to requests for confirmation of the identification.
At least two other known Antifa members were spotted among the crowds of pro-Trump protesters, a law enforcement source told The New York Post.
The infiltrators, who had disguised themselves with pro-Trump clothing, were recognized during monitoring of video coverage from the Capitol, the source said.
The infiltrators were reportedly recognized from their participation in anti-Trump protests in Manhattan on November 1, which led to 11 arrests following clashes with police.
The claims were echoed by some of President Trump’s most ardent supporters as Congress reconvened late Wednesday, following a day of violence which left 4 dead, including a female Air Force veteran fatally shot inside the Capitol building.
Matt Gaetz, a Republican congressman for Florida, told the House that he did not believe Trump supporters were responsible for storming the building.
There was “some pretty compelling evidence from a facial recognition company,” he declared, “showing that some of the people who breached the Capitol today were not Trump supporters, but were masquerading as Trump supporters, and in fact were members of the violent terrorist group Antifa.”
