Beagle miraculously survives 40-mile journey trapped under owner’s truck

The Washington state pit bull who stayed calm at the wheel earlier this week with the cops hot on her tail was always going to take some beating.

But an unfortunate New York state beagle forced to travel in an area of a vehicle not meant for animal or human has done just that with his dogged determination.

Rochester firefighters and members of the Humane Society rescued the 2-year-old beagle named Zeke from underneath his owner’s pickup at Rochester Public Market on Thursday morning.

Zeke had crawled under the pickup and got stuck while it was parked at his owner’s home in Canandaigua.

The owner, a vendor at the market, then set off to work in the vehicle without noticing the poor unwitting stowaway.

The hapless pooch “had been trapped there for an extended period of time and traveled at least 40 miles,” the Rochester Fire Department said.

When the owner pulled up at the market and got out of the car, Zeke barked to alert him.

Firefighters tried for “several minutes” to extract Zeke from underneath the vehicle before reaching out to the Humane Society of Greater Rochester for expertise.

He was finally freed after a veterinarian recommended he be sedated.

Miraculously, Zeke’s injuries appear to be relatively minor and he is expected to make a full recovery.
