Bear breaks quarantine rules, goes on early morning stroll around deserted streets

Stressed officials all across America have been urging residents to stay indoors. Frequently, those orders are being flouted by a minority of “corona rebels”, or “covidiots” as some have called them.

So, with enough on their plates trying to corral renegade humans, the last thing those trying to manage the crisis need are rogue animal violators.

But that is what one California neighborhood had to deal with yesterday as a giant bear roamed its empty streets.

The large black bear was seen in the city of Arcadia from around 5 am, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

The wild animal was first seen by a TV crew as it knocked over a trash can. Clearly, the bear was searching for a bit of breakfast.

It appears the bear spent at least a couple of hours roaming the streets. About 7 am it was spotted again on another street before it headed back toward the Angeles National Forest.

Tim Daly, a spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, told the LA Times that he wasn’t sure whether the agency had responded to the report.

In any event, he didn’t seem particularly worried about the animal’s early morning food raid.

“That tends to happen when there’s a threat to public safety, or we’ve been called for assistance,” Daly said. “Keep in mind, it’s not unusual for bears to appear in that area — and it’s not unusual for the visits to happen on garbage day,” he said.

As it looked for something tasty to eat, the intruder caused quite a bit of commotion, knocking over several trash cans. Fortunately, though, it did not appear to have crossed paths with any human residents.

They were all presumably cowering inside on the California governor’s orders!
