Burglar steals dog from Manhattan apartment

Intruder is believed to have taken the pet from the Upper East Side residence while the owner was at work.

A woman who had only just moved to the Big Apple came home after her first day at her new job last week to find her beloved pooch had apparently been stolen from her apartment.

Dr. Autumn Brewer, who is an obstetrician, finished her first 14-hour shift at Manhattan’s Metropolitan Hospital on Friday, and walked through the door of her home only to find no greeting from her 3-year-old miniature Australian shepherd, Stella.

It soon became clear to Brewer, 27, that her pet had simply vanished from the East 94th Street apartment, according to a report on Upper East Site.

“I think I’ve been crying all morning,” Brewer told the outlet.

“Dog, dog collar, leash and harness were removed from apartment,” police said.

The long holiday weekend means that investigators have so far been unable to review surveillance video from the building’s lobby camera and three exterior cameras— because the workers able to access them are not around.

Brewer reportedly told detectives that “multiple people have access to the apartment.”

One of those people is a female graduate student who Brewer met on the dog-walking app Rover, according to the article.

The dog-walker, “Sarah” who is not accused of any wrongdoing, took Stella for a stroll without incident Friday but said she had an unsettling encounter when she and the animal later returned to the building.

Sarah said another woman with a small black dog and two trash bags was just standing in the vestibule staring at them.

The dog-walker said that when she then got up to Brewer’s apartment, it took her five to seven minutes to unlock the door as she struggled with the key she had gotten from the lockbox outside Brewer’s apartment.

After putting Stella inside the home, the dog-walker said she closed the door, which automatically locked behind her, and left — only to find the lockbox now gone. She eventually found it attached to window bars on an adjacent building.

Brewer has now started an Instagram account entitled “Bring Stella Home” to try and find her disappeared pet.

Here at Crazy America, we wish Brewer all the luck in the world, and will be anxiously awaiting her being reunited with Stella as soon as possible.
