Chicago on edge as video shows cops shooting dead suspect wielding butcher’s knife

Man fatally shot by police after stabbing a female sergeant and after attempts to tase him failed.

The Windy City was this weekend poised for potential unrest after police fatally shot a man.

Officials in Chicago looked to have tried to get ahead of the story by releasing bodycam footage of the incident, perhaps in the hope that it would show the killing as justified.

The dramatic video shows that cops shot the man who had attacked a sergeant with a butcher’s knife — after a Taser failed to bring him down.

However, other recent events, most notably a riot in Lancaster, PA, have shown Black Lives Matter and other Far left agitators not letting facts get in the way of unleashing a new wave of mayhem.

The police bodycam footage, released Thursday by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, shows officers responding to Vittum Park on Sept. 5 after getting a report of a person stabbed.

At least two officers and a sergeant then encountered a suspect identified by the Chicago Tribune as Shaon Warner in the park in the city’s Garfield Ridge section.

“Hey, get your hands up,” one officer tells Warner, video shows. “My man, put your hands up.”

“Let’s see your hands,” a female sergeant then tells Warner, who appears to pick up a bag as another officer tells him not to reach for anything.

“Don’t you dare,” the sergeant continues as Warner ignores the command and begins walking toward her, causing her to hit him with a Taser.

Warner then falls to the grass but the stun gun appears to only momentarily disable him, as he climbs to his feet and charges at the female sergeant with a knife, the intense footage shows.

“Put the f–king knife down!” an officer shouts. “Drop the God damn knife! Drop it!”

“Let me go,” Warner says as he stabs the sergeant at least twice.

The unidentified sergeant, who was wearing a protective ballistic vest at the time, was not seriously hurt. But the attack prompted two other officers to open fire on Warner, who was pronounced dead at the scene, COPA officials said.

The sergeant is then heard in the video breathing heavily as two other officers stand over Warner.

“I’m fine, I’m fine,” she breathlessly tells her partners. “It didn’t go through! It didn’t go through! He stabbed me in my vest in my stomach.”

COPA’s investigation in the officers’ actions, including the use of deadly force, is in its “early stages” and will determine if they acted in accordance with department policy, the police oversight agency said in a statement Thursday.
