From Heartbreak to Internet Sensation: The Truly Bizarre Tale of Onijah Robinson in Pakistan

A 33-year-old woman with less than supermodel looks was immediately rejected by her 19-year-old Pakistani boyfriend, but turned that setback into opportunity.

A 33-year-old woman with less than supermodel looks was immediately rejected by her 19-year-old Pakistani boyfriend, but turned that setback into opportunity.

It’s certainly one of the strangest stories we’ve seen at Crazy America for some time.

Onijah Andrew Robinson, a 33-year-old from New York, has gone from an unknown woman with a dream to an Internet phenomenon practically overnight, thanks to a whirlwind international saga that has social media in a chokehold.

It all started with what should have been a simple – albeit slightly cringeworthy – love story. Robinson, a self-described “hopeless romantic,” met a 19-year-old Pakistani man, Nidal Ahmed Memon, online in 2024. He was everything she had ever wanted—smart, charming, and, most intriguingly, from halfway across the world. After months of virtual courtship, Robinson made the bold move of traveling to Karachi, Pakistan, to be with him. She left behind her life in New York, packed her bags, and flew thousands of miles to a country she had never set foot in, all in the name of love. Or so she claims.

What happened next is the stuff of viral legend.

Upon her arrival on October 11, 2024, Robinson’s plans took a sharp turn. Under family pressure, Memon refused to marry her, leaving Robinson stranded in a foreign land with little money and no easy way home. Social media sleuths soon uncovered Robinson’s situation, and within days, the Internet was buzzing.

Hashtags like #SaveOnijah and #StrandedInPakistan trended on X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok was flooded with users dissecting every detail of her case. Some compared her to other viral stories of love gone wrong. Others turned her predicament into meme fuel, with captions like “Me trying to leave a bad first date, but my passport got revoked.”

But what truly propelled Robinson to fame was her own resourcefulness. Stuck in a foreign country with dwindling funds, she did what any 33-year-old with an internet connection would do—she started live-streaming.

What began as a few candid videos of Robinson explaining her situation soon turned into full-blown digital entertainment. Her followers exploded overnight, drawn in by her humor, resilience, and unfiltered updates.

“Day 36: Still stuck. Running out of instant noodles. Send help, but also… send Wi-Fi,” she joked in one TikTok that racked up over two million views.

Celebrities took notice. A GoFundMe page launched on her behalf skyrocketed past its initial goal within hours. Even brands hopped on the bandwagon—one airline allegedly offered to sponsor her flight back home in exchange for a promotional video.

And then, just like that, her exile ended. Thanks to the power of the internet (and some bureaucratic maneuvering), Robinson finally made it back to the U.S. last week, greeted at the airport by a mix of reporters, supporters, and, of course, cameras.

Now back in New York, Robinson is already fielding podcast invites and brand deals. Rumors of a reality TV offer are swirling. “I just want to thank everyone who supported me,” she said in a recent interview. “And, uh… maybe double-check your travel plans before booking that flight.”

Robinson did not respond to Crazy America’s request for comment. We understand, she’s a busy woman with a lot of offers on the table. Don’t worry folks, we will get some access very soon. We promise.

In the meantime, Robinson is certainly living proof that even the worst situations can have a viral silver lining.
