Illinois mom kills man who refused to kiss her

An Illinois love triangle fatally detonated last week when a mother of three allegedly shot a man dead after he refused to kiss her and instead turned to his girlfriend for a smooch.

Claudia Resendiz-Florez, 28, had just moved in with James P. Jones, 29, and his girlfriend at the Preserve Woodfield apartment complex in Rolling Meadows when the living arrangements took a deadly turn, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The trio had been drinking together on Thursday night when Resendiz-Florez allegedly asked Jones for a kiss.

Jones refused and instead turned to smooch with his girlfriend, infuriating Resendiz-Florez, who then demanded that he kiss her, prosecutors said at a bond hearing on Saturday.

When Jones again refused, Resendiz-Florez allegedly took his gun from where it had been tucked between couch cushions at the home and pointed it at him.

Jones tried to push the gun down when he saw her take the safety off and place her finger on the trigger, prosecutors said. But she allegedly managed to raise her arms and shoot him once in the chest, killing him.

Jones’s girlfriend called 911 and responding officers found the handgun in the living room.

Resendiz-Florez reportedly confessed to the shooting and was taken into police custody. She had been charged with first-degree murder, the Rolling Meadows Police Department said in a press release. 

An attorney for Resendiz-Florez, Assistant Public Defender Courtney Smallwood, claimed that her client was not living with the couple but with her family in nearby Des Plaines, the Sun-Times reported.

Resendiz-Flores is separated from her husband and the sole caretaker of her three young children, Smallwood said.

A judge ordered Resendiz-Florez held without bail. She is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.
