Inmate who smuggled gun in her vagina gets 10 years

Amy Wilhite secretly stowed a four-inch revolver which was later found in her cell in a Missouri jail 17 days after her arrest.

A Missouri woman who smuggled a loaded gun into a county jail by hiding it in her vagina has been sentenced to ten years in the slammer.

Amy Wilhite, 39, pleaded guilty last month to secretly bringing the four-inch firearm into Boone County jail on February 14, according to court documents obtained by The Smoking Gun.

When Wilhite was arrested and booked into jail that day on separate gun and narcotics charges, a “pat search” and strip search by police and jail guards failed to detect the stashed weapon – a small .22 caliber revolver loaded with five rounds.

Jailers eventually found the gun wrapped in plastic among Wilhite’s possessions 17 days after her arrival.

Investigators alleged in a probable cause statement that Wilhite had “removed the firearm from her body and concealed it within her personal belongings.”

During questioning, Wilhite admitted to having the gun, but claimed she was holding it for another inmate.

However, fellow detainees in her housing unit denied the claim, insisting that “Amy was in possession of the firearm,” an investigator reported.

On April 19, Wilhite pleaded guilty to both the gun smuggling charge and the original felony drug and weapons counts which led to her arrest.

She was ordered to serve five years on each conviction, with the sentences to run concurrently with the ten-year prison term.
