Man busted for DUI twice in nine hours

Virginia driver allegedly crashed truck while intoxicated just 90 minutes after he was released following identical charges the night before.

To get caught once for driving while intoxicated may be regarded as a misfortune; to get caught twice looks like carelessness.

Less than a fortnight after a Washington man grabbed headlines for committing another crime just twenty minutes after his jail release, a Virginia motorist has shown a similiarly steely determination to prove that his initial brush with the law was no accident.

Fredericksburg resident Travis Baker may well have set a dubious record of sorts after he was arrested twice in less than nine hours for driving under the influence.

The 38-year-old was first busted shortly before midnight Tuesday when he allegedly sideswiped another car in Stafford County, Fredericksburg Today reported.

During the arrest, a deputy found a controlled substance in Baker’s pocket, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said.

After being charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license, he was released on bond at 7.15 a.m.

But a mere ninety minutes later, Baker allegedly crashed a box truck into the woods while intoxicated.

A deputy responding to the accident noticed that Baker was slurring his speech, and he was arrested for a second time after a field sobriety test.

The deputy also found a controlled substance inside the truck, authorities said.

Predictably, Baker was hit with the same three charges, in addition to reckless driving.

This time round, however, he was held in jail without bond.
