Man walks into parked Snapple truck … and tragically dies

It’s long been established that the drinks brand Snapple is bad for your health.

An 11.5-ounce container of the new Snapple has around 200 calories and the equivalent of about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 40 or 41 grams.

In other words, a penchant for the sickly sweet drinks is not only unlikely to leave you with a ripped physique. It could eventually lead to obesity, diabetes and a whole load of other health issues.

Tragically, a New York man found out this week that the brand can be dangerous in other ways too.  

Police have now identified a man who died after he walked into the back of a Snapple delivery truck on Tuesday.

David Piette, 44, lived just steps away on West 42nd Street west of 11th Avenue, where the crash occurred.

Just after 8 a.m. Piette stepped into the street from the north side of the sidewalk, hitting his head on the back of the Snapple delivery truck, police said. He fell backward and hit his head on the pavement.

Police believe the truck was not moving and that Piette walked into it without noticing it, the Daily News reported.

Officers responding to the scene found Piette unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from head trauma. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 63-year-old truck driver stayed at the scene and has not been charged. The NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad is still investigating the crash.

Piette was an accomplished engineer who will be much missed by his family, the Daily News said.
