A small town in Nevada was reeling this week after a teenaged girl working at a local McDonald’s restaurant was shot dead in an apparently random and utterly senseless act of violence.
A man has been arrested for the fatal shooting of the employee at the McDonald’s just off Interstate 80 in Elko, Nevada.
Police say 24-year-old Justin Michael Mullis of Winnemucca, Nevada walked up to the drive-thru and shot a teenage girl working at the window at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a report in the Elko Daily.
16-year-old Kylee Leniz of Elko was taken to a local hospital where she later was pronounced dead. Police say the crime appeared to be random and that there was no connection between the suspect and victim.
Police said Mullis was driven to the police station by an acquaintance on Monday afternoon, where he was then interviewed by detectives and taken into custody. He is being charged with one count of “Open Murder,” the Elko Police Department said.
The Washoe County Forensic Investigative Services responded to assist in processing the crime scene along with the state patrol, Elko police, Elko County Sheriff’s Office and Elko combined narcotics unit.
