Texas mother faces aggravated assault charge after firing poorly aimed gun during argument with her spouse.
Antionette Gina Corder (Houston Police Department)
A Texas mother has been charged after she accidentally shot her son while allegedly missing her intended target – her husband.
Antionette Gina Corder, 31, was handed a charge of aggravated assault against a family member following the domestic shooting incident, which took place on the 6500 block of Dunlap St in Houston around 11.05 a.m. Friday.
Corder and her husband were in a “verbal altercation” when she allegedly picked up a gun and tried to shoot him, Houston police said in a press release Monday.
Instead, she only succeeded in shooting her eight-year-old son in the upper left chest.
The boy – who has not been identified – was alert and talking to officers while being taken for treatment to a local hospital, where he was said said to be in stable condition.
Another child present at the time of the shooting was not injured, police said.
Corder was taken into custody at the scene and charged soon after.
She had been arguing with her husband about him moving out at the time of the shooting, KHOU reported.
