North Bergen’s Robert Farley is accused of tormenting his police colleagues with bizarre and, frankly, disgusting behavior.
In a scandal straight out of a bad cop comedy, North Bergen Police Chief Robert Farley is at the center of explosive allegations from five officers who say he turned their workplace into a circus of harassment, humiliation, and outright danger.
According to legal notices filed by the officers, Farley didn’t just abuse his power — he allegedly used it to drug his own cops, chase them with needles, and even drop his pants to defecate in the office. One claim says the chief laced the department’s communal coffee pot with prescription meds like Viagra and Adderall, causing unsuspecting officers to experience unexpected physical effects while on duty.
But that’s just the start. In another bizarre accusation, Farley allegedly chased a subordinate around the precinct and jabbed a hypodermic needle through his clothing into the man’s genitals, causing injury. Other claims accuse Farley of tampering with officers’ meals by slipping in hot peppers, leaving one officer reportedly in need of medical attention after inhaling the spicy fumes.
Then there’s the feces. Officers say the chief defecated on the office floor in front of staff — multiple times — and strategically left the mess to be discovered by colleagues. And in what some say was a deliberate act of targeted harassment, Farley is accused of sending sex toys and gay pride flags to an officer’s home.
The officers’ attorney, Patrick Toscano, has demanded that New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin take over control of the North Bergen Police Department, citing safety concerns and a hostile environment.
A spokesperson for the AG’s office declined to comment, saying they do not confirm or deny ongoing investigations. The case has been referred to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office and is reportedly under review at the state level.
Despite the avalanche of disturbing claims, North Bergen officials are standing by their man. A township spokesperson called the allegations “false and outrageous,” chalking them up to disgruntled cops unhappy with Farley’s cost-cutting reforms, which allegedly saved the town $1 million in reduced police overtime.
Officials have urged the media and public not to jump to conclusions, but with these jaw-dropping accusations, the North Bergen PD might be facing its biggest PR crisis in history.
