Attorney arrested for dropping his pants in courthouse

Pittsburgh lawyer charged with disorderly conduct after taking off his trousers to pass through a metal detector.

It was only a “brief” transgression, Your Honor. It’ll take some time to live down though.

A Pittsburgh attorney was arrested Wednesday after taking his pants off to pass through a courthouse metal detector.

Jeffrey Pollock, 59, resorted to dropping his drawers out of frustration that they kept triggering the security device, the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Pollock had arrived at the Family Division Complex for a hearing around 1 p.m. but kept activating the walk-through metal detector, police said.

The lawyer attempted to explain to guards that he suspected his suspenders were the culprit but they weren’t buying it.

After a “heated discussion” with guards, Pollock unhooked the suspenders, whipped off his trousers and put them in the bin to go through the detector.

“At this point, Pollock was standing in the middle of the Family Division Rotunda wearing only his shirt and underwear,” the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies alerted to the unusual sight arrived on the scene and took the attorney into custody.

Pollock was charged with disorderly conduct and released the same afternoon.

Doubtless displeased with the unwanted exposure, Pollock has since hit back at deputies’ handling of the situation.

“What they did to me today was not appropriate and by embarrassing me and sending out a press release, I don’t know how that helps anything. If they want to do something they can change the way people are led into the courthouse,” the lawyer said, according to local station WXPI.

The sheriff’s office issued a timely reminder to courtgoers that “visible underwear is not part of the dress code.”
