Police chief answers his door and gets stabbed in face with screwdriver

Authorities later capture suspect who told the South Carolina officer that he was “going to die today”.

Law enforcement officers across America have been under scrutiny, and often under threat of physical attack as violent disorder has escalated across the nation in recent months.

Nonetheless, a new low was reached this week when a police chief in South Carolina was assaulted in the one place he would have hoped to have remained secure in – his own home.

Bonneau Police Chief Franco Fuda said he heard a knock at the door Monday and went out to meet the suspect.

Fuda was then stabbed in the face by the man who told him that he was “going to die today”. The suspect was later identified as Forrest Bowman.

Fuda said Bowman stabbed him under his left eye with an ice pick, leaving him covered in blood, ABC4 News reported.

The assailant took off for his mobile home and refused to come out in a standoff with authorities, police said.

Berkeley County deputies sent a scout robot into his trailer before making entry to arrest Bowman, who was naked and screaming, authorities said.

A judge denied bond Tuesday night for Bowman, who faces charges that include attempted murder for an assault.

Investigators said Bowman was recently arrested after allegedly threatening the pastor of a nearby church and another police officer. He was recently released on bond.

Initial reports described the weapon used in the attack as a screwdriver.

Police have not yet released a motive for the horrific assault.
