Shanon Ryan admits he was one of the last people to see Leila Cavett before she disappeared more than three weeks ago.
A man who says he was one of the last people to see Leila Cavett before she went missing has been charged with kidnapping and lying to federal law enforcement officals, according to court documents.
The man, Shannon Ryan, is set to appear in federal court on Monday.
Cavett has been missing since July 25. Her son Kamdyn, who was found wandering alone in Miramar, Florida, is now in state custody as the search for his mother continues.
Last week, local police and the FBI, who are now involved in the case, released new surveillance photos. The images are intended to show some of Cavett’s movements just before she disappeared.
Separately, Ryan drew scrutiny earlier this month after he posted a lengthy video on Facebook saying he has known Leila and her son for a year.
Ryan claimed that he helped the young mom when she was homeless, and that he made a deal with Leila for her to come meet him in Florida so he could buy her pickup truck.
On his Facebook page, Ryan claims to be a witch, spiritual adviser, teacher and CEO and seeks to set straight the uninformed about witches and their motives.
“I said, ‘Leila, lemme buy that truck!‘” Ryan said in the video.
The self-proclaimed witch then goes one to say he last saw Leila getting into another car at a Racetrac gas station in Hollywood, Florida. He said he never saw or heard from her again.
“She grabbed her kid and got into the car with those guys,” Ryan said.
Neither the FBI, nor Hollywood police have released further details about Ryan’s arrest.
However, Ryan suggests in the video that he is being accused unfairly.
“I have 15 years in prison, I have a number of (expletive) felonies, and I just told you I was the last person to see her. You might as well say, ‘Case closed,‘” Ryan said.
