Mad motorist crashes car through glass front of showroom after heated argument over vehicle return policy.
Move over, Fast & Furious—we’ve got a real-life rage-fueled Subaru saga starring Michael Lee Murray, a man who clearly didn’t read the fine print on his purchase agreement. In Sandy, Utah, the 35-year-old decided that if the dealership wouldn’t take back his car, he’d return it anyway… straight through their front door.
According to local police, Murray bought a Subaru Outback from the Tim Dahle Mazda Southtowne dealership on Monday morning. By 4 PM, the car was back—just not in the parking lot. A viral video captured the vehicular tantrum as Murray’s Outback plowed through the dealership’s glass front window, coming to rest inside the showroom like it was there for a dramatic product placement.
The chaos reportedly began when Murray discovered what he thought were mechanical issues with his freshly purchased ride. Naturally, he tried to return the car. The dealership, sticking to the universal mantra of “you break it, you bought it,” pointed to their “as-is” policy. Frustrated, Murray allegedly threatened to ram his vehicle through the dealership unless they refunded his money.
Spoiler alert: they didn’t. And Murray made good on his word. His Subaru crashed into the dealership with the subtlety of a wrecking ball, leaving shattered glass, mangled doors, and one very damaged showroom vehicle in its wake.
Seven salespeople were near the dealership’s entrance when Murray delivered his surprise “return,” but fortunately, no one was injured. The building, however, was not so lucky—it reportedly suffered $10,000 in damages. Subaru’s slogan might be “Love. It’s what makes a Subaru, a Subaru,” but this moment wasn’t exactly heartwarming.
One employee, Aylin Hernandez, counted her blessings for missing the showdown. “What would’ve happened? Who knows—it could’ve been fatal,” she told Fox 13 News. Her conclusion? “He just acted out on rage.” No kidding, Aylin.
Murray was arrested and charged with felony criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. After cooling off in the Salt Lake County Jail, he was released pending a pretrial hearing. Conditions for release include showing up for court and, presumably, avoiding all car-related theatrics.
As for the Subaru, it now lives in infamy, proving that sometimes, the biggest road hazard isn’t mechanical failure—it’s human temper.
