Victim Dwight “DJ” Grant was reportedly entangled in a love triangle that turned deadly.
Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a Florida high school student found dead just steps from his home.
Andre Clemens, 17, Christie Parisienne, 17, and Jaslyn Smith, 16, were taken into custody late Friday and Saturday and charged in the killing of 18-year-old Dwight “DJ” Grant, Local 10 News reported.
Grant’s body was found dumped in bushes outside the apartment complex in Miramar where he lived on Tuesday, two days after the young man’s family had reported him missing.
Officers searching the area found a trail of blood stains which they followed to make the grim discovery, the Miramar Police Department said.
A source told Local 10 News that Grant was killed over a girl after getting caught up in a love triangle, although police are yet to confirm a motive.
The fatal attack on Grant, who attended Miramar High School, was reportedly captured on surveillance video.
The three teenage suspects all face charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence and criminal conspiracy.
They were ordered held in Broward County’s Department of Juvenile Justice for 21 days at a bond hearing Sunday, and are due back in court on November 4.
Meanwhile, the local community is left struggling to comprehend why a young man’s life was cut so tragically short.
“It’s horrible, horrible. This kid lost his life over a girl. He had his whole life ahead of him. It’s senseless,” neighbor and family friend Sergio Smith told Local 10.
