Two Camerons shot, one fatally, during gunfight on Cameron Drive

Shootout in Vermont is believed to have arisen over a disagreement about hunting.

A tiny town in Vermont is reeling after two men died and another was critically injured in a shootout that erupted over a dispute about hunting access.

The weekend altercation claimed the lives of David Mohamed, 51, and Larry Cameron, 41, both of whom were shot dead. Meanwhile, Devin Cameron, 27, was shot and left critically injured.

Vermont state police say it happened on Cameron Drive in Alburgh Saturday night.

Local authorities identified all the victims on Monday and also said that they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident, according to a report from local station WCAX.

Autopsies are expected this week on the bodies of Mohamed and Larry Cameron, police said.  All three men involved in the argument are residents of Alburgh, which has a population of around 500 people.

“It’s going to be a long road. It’s rough on everybody,” local resident and volunteer firefighter Joseph Deyo told WCAX.

Deyo lives near where the shooting happened. He said that the police were called to a home after reports of a shooting at around 10 p.m. Saturday.

“We heard the shots sitting here last night and then 10 minutes after that we got the initial call,” Deyo said.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents arrived at the scene first. The State Police Major Crime Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigations and other law enforcement personnel surveyed the area for much of Sunday.

Capt. Scott Dunlap, the commander of the Major Crime Unit, says the preliminary investigation shows that two of the men involved had been arguing for a little over a week.

“It appears that this shooting arose from an ongoing dispute regarding hunting on some property, hunting access,” Dunlap said. “It just seems that it reached a boiling point last night.”

Police say Devin Cameron is in critical but stable condition at the UVM Medical Center.
