Peyton Moyer was arrested for fatal double shooting after a short police pursuit.
A Georgia man was arrested Tuesday morning after he allegedly shot dead his mother and stepfather at the family’s home.
Peyton Moyer, 20, is alleged to have carried out the fatal attack while his two sisters, 16 and 4, were also inside the residence in Watkinsville, near Athens, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Deputies responding just after midnight on Tuesday to reports of a shooting at the home found Moyer’s mother, 41-year-old Ashley Schultz, and stepfather, 54-year-old Benjamin Smith, dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
The suspect’s two younger sisters were unharmed.
Moyer, who also lives at the home, had already fled the scene in a vehicle belonging to one of the victims, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office said.
He was later located and caught by police after a short pursuit, authorities said.
Moyer is being held at the Oconee County Jail on two counts of murder and one count of cruelty to children.
Investigators have not released information on a possible motive for the shooting.
