Most couples set to make a lifelong commitment to each other hope their wedding day goes with a bang.
But for one unfortunate groom in Texas that literally proved the case when he was shot in the chest at his own wedding party. And to make matters worse, his loving bride is staying tight-lipped with detectives trying to work out what went so wrong.
The newly married man, who has not been identified, was gunned down after a fight with one of his guests at the evening celebration in suburban Houston Thursday night, deputies said.
The shooting took place at around 11.30 p.m., the Houston Chronicle reports.
Both groom and gunman fled the scene before deputies arrived, but the groom was found at a home across the street with a gunshot wound to the chest, Captain John Shannon of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.
He was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition, but was later said to be in stable condition and is expected to survive, according to officials.
Witnesses – including the bride – were not cooperating with authorities, Shannon said.
“Three people at the house have been detained so we can get witness statements,” he told ABC 13.
A neighbor who didn’t wish to be identified told Click2Houston that she and her daughter went outside to find out what was going on after hearing gunshots.
“We saw the bride come out and she started yelling, ‘Where is he? Where is he? I need to find him’,” she said.
A Twitter user claimed that the shooter was either the bride’s brother or father.
However, deputies said the investigation was ongoing and that they had no further information on the suspect at this stage.
