Woman attacks husband and children, blames coronavirus

Drunk Utah mom throttles partner and kicks sons, then says she was “upset” over school closures caused by the pandemic.

Covid-19 sure feels like the source of all our ills at the moment. But not every effort to shift responsibility to the deadly infectious disease will wash in the sober light of day.

Certainly, one Utah mom isn’t garnering much sympathy for her deplorable behavior, despite citing the impact of the global health crisis by way of explanation.

Jessica Cambray, 36, was arrested early last Wednesday after police responded to a report of domestic violence at her home in Provo, according to The Deseret News. Cambray shares the house with her common-law husband and three sons, two aged 12 and one aged 9.

Cambray was intoxicated and said to be “upset about her children’s school circumstances in regards to the coronavirus,” according to an affidavit.

The couple were having “on-and-off verbal arguments” and the father was spending time with the three children in their bedroom when Cambray came into the room and allegedly “began pushing her husband.”

She told police she slapped her husband in the throat with an open hand, although the children claim she was in fact “choking” him.

Even more distressingly, Cambray then allegedly kicked one child and twisted the arm of another as they rushed to help their father.

She was taken into custody for investigation of two counts of child abuse, intoxication and domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Cambray won’t be helped by her track record, which includes previous convictions for domestic violence in 2007 and 2011 – both years without coronavirus school closures.
