North Carolina singleton sentenced after posing as law enforcement officer and for illegal possession of a firearm.
Dating, like many other aspects of life in America, has largely moved online in recent weeks.
That means, if you are single and trying to mingle, it’s more important than ever before to have a profile that will make you stand out from the herd. Many folks may feel that a white lie here or there might help them do that.
But a woman from North Carolina has certainly taken that approach way too far.
Riane Leigh Brownlee was last week sentenced to three years in prison for claiming on her profile on a dating website that she was an FBI agent; and for illegally having a gun.
Brownlee, 39, received a total of 37 months, U.S. Attorney for North Carolina’s Western District Andrew Murray announced in a Justice Department press release. The Monroe woman was also ordered to serve three years under court supervision after her prison term is completed.
Brownlee, who is also known as “Raine Leigh Webb,” and “Alexandria Mancini,” posted pictures on dating websites posing with a fake FBI badge and a firearm, according to court documents.
The devious singleton also was alleged to have falsely told someone she met on a date in February that she was an FBI agent conducting a counter-drug operation.
After Brownlee was arrested later the same day, she falsely told the same person that she had to keep her identity secret from law enforcement because she was operating undercover.
After Brownlee’s arrest, authorities recovered her fake FBI badge and also a stolen loaded firearm from the car that she was driving. The vehicle she was arrested in was – you’ve guessed it – also stolen.
Brownlee certainly has previous. Her substantial list of prior felony convictions include identity theft, felony worthless checks, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. As a former felon, she was also expressly prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
She is currently in federal custody.
