Man throws wife into river during row over “dinner arrangements”

Dinner is better when you eat together, they say – unless organizing that shared repast is in itself an unappetizing business.

Certainly, a Utah man is unlikely to be enjoying a romantic meal with his wife anytime soon, after he allegedly threw her in the river at a waterside resort in an angry fit over plans for dinner.

Douglas Harold Green, 61, was arrested Monday for allegedly tossing his better half into the Provo River.

He is also accused of threatening bystanders who rushed to help his wife during the attack, which allegedly took place Sunday at the Provo River Resort.

Green’s wife told cops the two “were arguing over dinner arrangements” when her husband “became angry and threatened to drown her in the river,” according to a police affidavit obtained by Deseret News.

Green then dragged his wife to the river bank and “forced her in.”

The fuming husband also reportedly “yelled” at witnesses “to stay away,” the affidavit states.

The victim had bruises on both arms where she was grabbed, according to Wasatch County sheriff’s deputies called to investigate.

Green was booked into the Wasatch County Jail on charges of aggravated kidnapping in the course of committing unlawful detention and assault.

It’s not clear what he was served there for dinner.
