A Massachusetts mother and her adult son face up to 20 years in prison after his wife allegedly caught the two having sex.
Cheryl Lavoie, 64, and her 43-year-old son Tony L. Lavoie have pleaded not guilty to incest after earlier admitting to having sexual relations with each other, court documents show.
Tony’s wife, who has not been named, allegedly walked in on the two having sex on May 20 at the home all three share in Fitchburg, around 59 miles northwest of Boston.
Police responding to reports of a disturbance at the property were met there by the female cousin of Tony’s wife, the Sentinel & Enterprise reports.
The cousin told officers that Tony’s wife had called her and dialled 911 after finding her husband and his mother having sex at their home, police said.
Cheryl and Tony separately told cops this was the first time they’d had sex and that it was consensual, according to the officer’s report.
However, each gave a different explanation for why the incestous encounter began.
“I don’t know it. It just happened,” Tony said, adding that he wanted treatment for what he’d done, according to the report.
Tony’s mother allegedly told cops she and her son had become closer in recent months, and that they started having sex after first kissing.
The two were charged with incest, a felony carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in state prison.
Mother and son both pleaded not guilty at their first court appearance last Thursday.
They were released on their own recognizance and ordered by a judge to stay away from each other, according to court records.
The Lavoies have a pretrial hearing scheduled for October 27.
