Red-faced corrections officials have admitted this that they made a serious mistake in releasing a dangerous man into the community.
The Mercer County Correction Center mistakenly released an inmate, the county announced Friday night.
Clark Green Jr., an inmate at the Correction Center, was mistakenly released from custody on Sept. 23 around 8:30 p.m. in Trenton.
Green, 54, was being held at Mercer County Jail on a charge of theft by deception and also had outstanding robbery offenses out of Ohio, a Mercer County spokesperson told patch.com.
Through an interstate agreement with Ohio, Green was being housed in Mercer on the local charge since Aug. 31, the outlet reported.
An investigation is currently ongoing into how the facility could have messed up so badly and let Green just walk out. The U.S Marshal’s NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force is working with local officials to try and find Green.
Meanwhile, police urged the public not to speak to Green or approach him if they see him but, instead, to call 911.
