A Texas man may soon be facing criminal charges after he was caught on video using a 3-month-old baby to clear snow off his car—because apparently, ice scrapers are just too mainstream.
The now-viral clip shows the man gripping the baby with both hands and giving his Hyundai Elantra a good wipe-down, as if the tiny tot were some kind of premium microfiber cloth. The baby, at least, was bundled up for the wintry weather, unlike the man, who opted for a short-sleeve shirt—because if you’re going to make questionable life choices, might as well commit fully.
Local journalist Kevin Steele shared the video on Facebook, and Port Arthur Police Chief Tim Duriso confirmed that the baby was, in fact, only 3 months old. Investigators have since spoken with the 25-year-old man, though his name remains under wraps because, for now, his only crime is terrible judgment.
“We confirmed that it was a 3-month-old baby,” Duriso stated, in case anyone thought this was just an oddly-shaped stuffed animal.
Police got wind of the video and tracked the man down, finding him with two women—one of whom they believe is the mother of the baby-slash-snow-brush. After checking on the child, officers determined the baby was unharmed, probably just confused as to why they were suddenly part of a winter maintenance routine.
Authorities are now considering a child endangerment charge, with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office weighing whether to issue an arrest warrant. Meanwhile, Duriso took a moment to remind the public that social media clout is not worth felony charges.
“It’s a sad situation. I know a lot of people go to social media and they are looking for clicks… but this is not a deal where you should put a baby on the windshield,” he said, stating what should be obvious but, apparently, isn’t.
The incident took place during a rare southern blizzard that dumped historic amounts of snow across Texas, leaving residents grappling with the concept of winter. Unfortunately, at least one of them decided to fight the elements with an infant.
