Pool party host busted for secretly filming guests using his bathroom

A Missouri man is in hot water after guests at his pool party discovered their bathroom visits were being secretly filmed.

Kyle Jon Vandermolen, 40, of St. Charles, was arrested last Wednesday on a felony charge of invasion of privacy after a female guest at his Aug. 29 gathering found a “covert video surveillance camera” aimed at the toilet in his bathroom, according to charging documents obtained by the St Louis Post-Dispatch.

Around 20 people attended the party at the suspect’s home, police said in a probable cause statement.

The woman who allegedly discovered the device removed its memory card and took it home with her, after telling her husband and Vandermolen’s wife, authorities said.

The memory card contained 11 videos recorded earlier that day, including two clips of the finder’s husband which showed his penis in the reflection of a mirror as he used the bathroom, according to the charges.

“The other videos show four different females enter the bathroom, remove their swim trunk bottoms and sit on the toilet,” the probable cause statement notes. “One of the videos is of a 4-year-old boy urinating in the toilet.”

The day after the party, the woman who found the camera and other neighbors confronted Vandermolen at his home on Ashley Place.

The exposed host reportedly admitted to planting the secret camera in the bathroom, but blamed it on his “drinking,” authorities said.

He apologized during the confrontation, which the woman and the other neighbors filmed before passing the recording on to police.

Vandermolen was freed after posting $10,000 bond, but has refused to speak with investigators since his arrest, police said.

He faces up to four years behind bars and a $10,000 fine if convicted.

Vandermolen intends to plead not guilty, his lawyer said.

“My client asserts his innocence,” attorney John Schleiffarth told the New York Post. “There’s plenty of time for additional evidence to come to light. I would encourage the public not to jump to any conclusions.”
