Getting properly dressed each day may not feel a top priority for many in these days of lockdown.
But as some law enforcement departments ensure people are wearing face masks in public, beware others grappling with more underlying sartorial issues.
Police in Taneytown, Maryland, have certainly had it up to here with residents going outside to check their mailbox in a state of undress.
So much so in fact that officers have decided it’s high time to show locals who’s really wearing the trousers.
“Please remember to put pants on before leaving the house to check your mailbox,” the Taneytown Police Department urged in a Facebook post published late Tuesday. “You know who you are. This is your final warning.”
The reprimand succeeded in reaching a wide audience, with a whopping 1.1k comments and 6.7k shares to date.
However, not all respondents were attuned to the gravity of the situation.
“Just to verify, this is only for checking the mail, correct?” Christopher Lee wrote. “We can continue going to the supermarket, mowing the lawn, and cleaning our gutters without any pants on… right?”
Camron Settlemier questioned the legal basis of the directive: “Please point to the constitutionally upheld law that requires wearing of pants in order to retrieve mail in public.”
Others offered reasons for why wearing pants to check the mail might be especially difficult right now.
“It’s been thirty some days inside! They don’t fit anymore!” Anna Mansfield exclaimed.
